After-School

Families can sign up to have their child transported to a nearby after-school program.

At dismissal, adults from the after-school programs meet students pick up students from CPE1’s courtyard on Madison Avenue. Then, adults walk a short distance with the children to the after-school programs. Some students ride a yellow school bus to a program on the West Side.

Types of Programs

For students in kindergarten and older, there are several free options, plus one paid option. For pre-K students (and their older siblings), there is one after-school option.

Free Nearby Options, K-5

Children’s Aid Society and SCAN-Harbor have after-school programs that are free for all. These programs are funded by the Department of Youth and Community Development.

Children’s Aid Society brings participating CPE1 students to nearby PS 72, on East 104 Street at Lexington Avenue. SCAN-Harbor’s program is located next to our school, at 1589 Madison Avenue.

The Boys Club of New York accepts boys in grades 2-5. The Gerry Boys Club is located at East 111 Street.

Fee-Based Option for West Side

Advancing the Community (ACT) After-School is a private after-school program located in the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. Students can ride a yellow school bus to ACT, as long as their home address is along the bus route to the West Side.

Pre-K Option

Wildarts is a private after-school program located inside the Locke School, on 112 Street at Fifth Avenue. Wildarts has scholarships available, and can be free for eligible families.

Pre-K students from CPE1 and our neighboring school, PS 108, attend Wildarts for after-school. Staff from PS 108 meet CPE1 students in our courtyard, and then walk them to the after-school program on 112 Street.
