Dear Families,

This Saturday is Fall Festival, from 12:00 to 4:00.

Fall Festival is CPE1’s homecoming.  This day celebrates alumni coming back, and the current community.  We open the yard to the whole neighborhood.  It’s a fundraiser, but more importantly, a joyous day.

Before, after, and during Fall Festival, there is much work to be done.  Volunteers are needed, from set-up on Friday before, to running activities during the festival, to cleaning up right after.  Please click here for a volunter sign-up form.

One part of the fundraiser is the rummage sale.  Each morning before school, from now through Friday, you can drop off items to donate to the sale on East 106 Street, right outside the main gate.

The most important part of Fall Festival is being there.  Please come out Saturday afternoon, and bring your family and friends.  Thank you to all who contribute.

No All-School Sing This Week

We will not have All-School Sing on Monday, October 16.  Mingie has tested positive for COVID.  We hope she feels well enough to return for Sing the following week.

PA Meeting Tuesday

The October meeting of the CPE1 parent association will happen this Tuesday, October 17.  This meeting will be in person in the second floor library at 8:30.  The PA also will stream this meeting on Zoom for those who cannot attend in person.

I will not be attending this week’s meeting.  Tuesday is our a day-long district principals meeting.  Unfortunately, I have the same conflict for the December and April parent association meetings, and will miss those as well.

Occupational Therapy Underway

After starting the year without an occupational therapist, we now have an occupational therapist who will be with us for the rest of the year.

Joseph Inoferio describes his practice as “heavily influenced by child-centered and trauma-informed philosophies.”  His training connects occupational therapy and children’s mental health.  Joseph’s prior work in early childhood settings has connected occupational therapy to children’s interests, in ways that are “respectful of their developing autonomy.”  He says he is excited to work in a school that shares this child-centered view.

Joseph will be at CPE1 three days per week this year, working with children who receive occupational therapy as a special education service.

Water Quality Update

Each year, the city tests school buildings for traces of lead in faucets and water fountains.  Our whole building has passed this year’s inspection.

Please click here for the official report about our school building’s water inspection.
