Dear Families,

Due to flooding, Family Game Night is being rescheduled. 

Family Game Night now will take place on June 13, from 6:00 to 7:30.

Here is a photo of the reason we rescheduled.  On Thursday morning, it rained on our cafeteria tables.

Not so long ago, such a leak would have contained waste water. For many years, our building’s sinks and toilets would overflow during heavy rain.  Now,  we have a special plumbing trap that activates when the city’s sewer system overflows.  The trap keeps sewer water out.  Unfortunately, if the trap activates, it might keep rain water in.

Asbestos was common in old buildings such as ours.  It is not dangerous as long as the asbestos remains trapped behind walls and beneath floors.  However, if water disturbs the asbestos, that area be removed, repaired, and re-tested.  That happened when we replaced the cafeteria ceiling three years ago. But we don’t know if the rain disturbed something else on the way down from the roof. Our cafeteria ceiling must dry before we know the next steps.

The yard may not be ready for tonight, either.  Here is the yard at about 11:00 on Thursday morning.
