Dear Families,

I hope summer is off to a good start for your family.  Here is a short update.

Welcome, Yasmin

Our hiring committee has selected a teacher for Patricia’s old K-1 class.  Many children in that class already know her.

Yasmin Solomon began visiting CPE1 classrooms back in January.  By February, we asked her to work in Anika’s class.  That time experience with the curriculum and routines of an early grades class gives her Yasmin a crucial head start for the fall.

Yasmin says she loves “children's natural curiosity.”  She was drawn to CPE1 – and stayed at CPE1 – because our school “values each child as an individual and rejects a one-size-fits-all approach to education.”  The adults who worked with her appreciated Yasmin’s warm tone with children and dedicated work ethic.  We feel excited to have Yasmin stepping into her own CPE1 classroom.

Safer Access Doors Operational

This week, our building will be activate our Safer Access doors.  Safer Access is a citywide program controls entry into the building.

All doors now will be locked for most of the day.  To enter, you ring a bell outside the building.  Before school safety agents buzz you in, they see your image on video.  This is like an apartment building security system, where residents see a video screen in their apartment before buzzing in their guests.

This will not impact students arriving for school on time in the morning.  During the school day, everyone must be buzzed in through the Safer Access door at the main entrance.
