Dear Families,
I am writing about an infection that may be going around our school. The infection, molluscum contagiousum, is not dangerous. However, it can cause small bumps on the skin. The bumps may be itchy.
So far, we have only one class (Hansel and Selena’s class) affected, and only one confirmed case. However, about five children in that class have had some bumps on their skin in the past few days.
Officially, we are not supposed to inform families until there are at least three confirmed cases … but why wait? If your child suddenly develops bumps, it’s good to know what is happening in school.
The Centers for Disease Control says, “There is no reason to keep a child with molluscum infection home from… school.” Children with molluscum should remain in school. It helps to cover the bumps with clothes or band aids.
