Dear Families,

I am looking forward to Thursday evening’s event to honor the Black Lives Matter in Schools Week of Action.  Megan Madison, the author and activist who is this year’s featured artist, will lead children and families in some short action projects.

This is a quick note about food.  We will not be serving dinner.  (Everyone needs their hands free to participate.)  Please make sure your family eats something to keep everyone going through the event.  We will start at 5:45 and end shortly after 7:00, which should leave you with enough time to eat again if needed.

Please come out on Thursday evening.

Update Your Emergency Contacts

Families across the city and the nation are thinking about what would happen if they were separated from their children.  The fear is that the adults would be detained by Immigration agents while the children are in school.  Who would pick up the children?

Emergencies of all kinds can happen, in every family.  Do the schools and after-schools your children attend know the people to call if something happens to you?

That unsettling question is a reminder to think about your emergency contact information.  You completed your emergency contact form months ago.  Since then, has someone’s phone number changed?  Has a friend left the city?  Did you change your mind about which people to call in the first place?

Please update emergency contact information by clicking here.  Or, call our main office (212.860.5821) so that we can make the update for you.

Progress Reports Next Week

Progress reports will go home in children’s backpacks on Wednesday, February 12.

We always send reports on the Wednesday before February vacation.  That allows families time to read and follow up with questions before the long break.   Please read your child’s report carefully; reach out to your child’s teacher if needed.

We changed our progress report format last year.  Teachers continue to spend many hours assessing children and completing detailed reports.  All are typing long into the night to make sure families get a more complete picture of how children are growing.  It’s a big undertaking that ensures families get personalized information.
